Miss any of the action from Day 1 of the college football transfer portal as it pertains to the Wolverines? Don’t worry, Michigan fans, we’ve got you covered:
The transfer portal window officially opened yesterday and will remain open until Jan. 16. As is the case with many other college football programs, the Michigan Wolverines have already lost some familiar faces to the portal, and they are bound to lose more over the next couple weeks.
Here is all the action from Day 1 as it pertains to the Wolverines.
Cole Sullivan enters the portal, but could return
The biggest name to enter the portal yesterday was linebacker Cole Sullivan. The sophomore from Pittsburgh had a breakout season in 2025 with 44 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and one pass breakup in 11 games. He flashed his athleticism and future potential all season long and will surely be missed in Ann Arbor…
…that is, if he truly does transfer somewhere else. According to reports, Sullivan is leaving the door open to return to Michigan. That would be massive for Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines, as Sullivan was in line to be a starter at linebacker next season.
Hopefully he comes back and spends his final two years of college eligibility with the Wolverines.
3 DBs enter the portal
Three members of Michigan’s secondary entered their names into the portal on Friday — cornerback Zeke Berry, cornerback Elijah Dotson and safety Jaden Mangham.
Berry was a two-year starter for the Wolverines and has been in college the past four seasons. Meanwhile, Mangham just wrapped up his second year in Ann Arbor, and Dotson was only here for one season. All three saw playing time this season for Michigan
Not having a defensive backs coach in place hurt the Wolverines on opening day of the transfer portal, so we’ll see if any others throw their name into the portal before the window closes.
A few names to monitor
It isn’t all doom and gloom for Michigan! According to On3’s Pete Nakos, two players to watch for the Wolverines moving forward are Utah edge rusher John Henry Daley and NC State wide receiver Terrell Anderson.
Daley should be no surprise, considering he flourished under Whittingham this season. He racked up 48 tackles, a whopping 17.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks in Salt Lake City this year prior to suffering a season-ending lower-leg injury in the second-to-last game of the regular season. He earned All-America honors and was a first-team All-Big 12 performer.
Meanwhile, Anderson reportedly grew up a Michigan fan and was even offered by the Wolverines when he was a high school recruit. He compiled 53 catches for 787 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons at NC State. Other schools to watch for him include Florida, USC, Georgia, Ole Miss, TCU, SMU, Louisville, UCLA, LSU, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Florida State and Miami, per Nakos.
Additionally, EJ Holland of The Wolverine reported that Michigan has interest in former Saginaw Valley State quarterback Mason McKenzie. Holland also reported that McKenzie is set to visit Boston College this weekend and will visit Northwestern and Temple the following week.
Of course, a potential McKenzie commitment wouldn’t move the needle too much, but he would be much needed depth for a pretty depleted quarterbacks room that really only features Bryce Underwood at the moment.
Finally, Holland also reported that there is “major interest” in Michigan for Utah cornerback Smith Snowden. He’s a nickel corner that also saw some playing time offensively this season. He was a second-team All-Big 12 performer after racking up 37 tackles, nine pass breakups and two interceptions.
The other Wolverines to enter the portal
Some of these were already reported on long ago, while some did so yesterday, but here are the other Wolverines that have entered the portal.
