Anarumo has connections to Joe Schoen and to Giants.
The New York Giants have reportedly requested permission to interview Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo for their vacant head coaching position.
Anarumo becoming a candidate for the Giants’ job is not a surprise. He ties to GM Joe Schoen from their days together with the Miami Dolphins, was a Giants’ assistant coach under Pat Shurmur in 2018, has a son working for the team as a scout, and is a Staten Island native. Anarumo interviewed for the job in 2022 before it went to Brian Daboll.
Anarumo, 59, was interim defensive coordinator for the Dolphins in 2015, defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019-2024, and spent the past year running the Colts’ defense. He was reportedly a finalist for the Arizona Cardinals job that went to the recently-fired Jonathan Gannon in 2023.
He joins a growing list of candidates expected to interview that so far includes Mike Kafka, Kliff Kingsbury, and Vance Joseph.
The Tennessee Titans have also reportedly requested to interview Anarumo.
Anarumo has previously expressed interest in being a head coach.
“I’d be lying to you if I said that down the road that wasn’t something that would be a career goal,” Anarumo said earlier this season.
