Texas A&M edge rusher Rylan Kennedy commits, will transfer to FSU

Nick Williams lands his first edge rusher.

Defensive line is a significant priority for Florida State this portal cycle and the Seminoles have added an edge rusher to the Tribe. Former Texas A&M Aggie Rylan Kennedy has decided he will transfer to FSU.

The 6-foot-3, 240 pound Kennedy is originally from Mansfield, Texas and was recruited to Texas A&M by new FSU edge coach Nick Williams before Williams’ departure. That relationship proved crucial in landing Kennedy’s commitment.

Kennedy spent three years in College Station and played in 35 total games. He is expected to have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Last season, he finished with 14 tackles (3.5 for loss) and two sacks. He totaled 40 tackles (5.5 for loss) and 3.5 sacks over his career.

2024 (SOPHOMORE): Played in all 12 games, making the start in the Las Vegas Bowl … Had a tackle and a hurry in the season opener against Notre Dame … Tallied four tackles in the win over McNeese … Finished the win at Florida with there tackles and two hurries … Had three solo tackles against Missouri … Was in on two tackles, including a sack, at Mississippi State … Had a solo sack for 9-yards lost in the win over LSU … Broke up two passes against New Mexico State … Was nominated for Special Teams MVP at the annual team award show. 

2023 (FRESHMAN): Played in 11 games … Made his collegiate debut at Miami … Made a pair of tackles in the win over South Carolina … Had a tackle against Mississippi State and ACU … Made two tackles and broke up a pass in the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State.

HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Kirk Thor at Lake Ridge High School … Ranked as a 4-star prospect by ESPN and 3-star by 247 Sports and Rivals … Recorded 61 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, one pass break up and one interception as a senior … A multi-sport athlete that competed in basketball and track & field … Had a personal-best high jump of 6’6” and long jump 20’1”.
