Nuno Espirito Santo is close to being sacked at West Ham United. His time at the club is falling apart after a humiliating 3-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Mick Brown is a former senior scout at both West Ham and Manchester United with deep ties to the club.
He told Football Insider that the Portuguese manager is now in an impossible position. Brown believes the board will likely fire Nuno if he doesn’t get a result in Tuesday’s big game against Nottingham Forest. The loss at Molineux was a massive blow. Wolves had only earned two points from their last 19 games before they thrashed the Hammers.
West Ham might sack Nuno Espirito Santo after the game against Nottingham Forest
West Ham’s recent form worries fans and experts. They have now gone nine games without a win. Nuno took over in September after Graham Potter left. Since then, he has only led the team to two wins in 15 games. As a result, the club are stuck in 18th place, four points from safety.
Losing to Forest would push that gap to a dangerous seven points. Brown called the club a “basket case.” He said the problems go deeper than just the manager, but he admitted that the coach always gets the blame. Brown argued that the owners need someone to blame for their own mistakes. Nuno is the easy target as fans get more frustrated.
He said: “West Ham are a basket case. These issues are not new; they’ve been in the making for some time, and no matter who the manager is or who they get in, I don’t think it will change.
“They simply don’t have the players to drag them out of this situation; they’re not good enough. But the blame ultimately lies with the manager; they need somebody to point the finger at to mask their own incompetence, and he is the one who will get the blame.
“Results haven’t been good enough since he came in, and the fans aren’t happy, so I would say he probably doesn’t have long left. They’ve got this game against Forest on Tuesday, and if they lose that, they’re in big trouble, so I think that’s when they might make a change.”
Analysis: Sack or Back? The Board’s Choice

The West Ham board has a huge decision to make. This choice could decide their Premier League future for a long time. Firing Nuno looks like the only logical move right now. The team’s defence is a mess, and the players seem to have lost faith in his tactics.
A new manager often gives a team a quick boost. With the threat of relegation growing, a new face might wake up a group of players who have clearly lost their confidence. It is a huge risk to keep a manager who has only won twice in four months. It makes survival less likely, especially as rivals like Forest move further ahead.
If the board decides to move on from Nuno, they have to make a swift decision. They need a manager who can pull off a survival act. Slaven Bilić’s name has come up recently. He knows the fans and has helped steady the club before.
The club could also look at Michael Carrick. He is known for coaching players well and having a clear plan, which is exactly what the Hammers need right now. However, the main goal is staying up.
The board seeks a practical manager who can get results, rather than someone with a specific style of play. Either way, they have to decide right after the Forest game. Waiting any longer will almost certainly mean the club go down to the Championship.
