Looks like Tennessee will get him on campus after all.
And finally, some concrete news on the quarterback transfer front for Tennessee. According to Austin Price at VolQuest, former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt will visit Knoxville on Wednesday.
This is the first quarterback visit of the transfer portal cycle for Tennessee. The Volunteers are still waiting on a court ruling for Joey Aguilar which will determine whether or not he gets an additional season of eligibility. In the meantime, Josh Heupel has been working on other options. Leavitt has been quietly connected to Tennessee for the past several days, despite plenty of noise surrounding Oregon and LSU.
Leavitt was visiting LSU today and was spotted on the sidelines of the basketball game on Tuesday night. He has already visited Texas Tech, which has since signed Brendan Sorsby. Leavitt has also visited with Kentucky, which has since signed Kenny Minchey.
Leavitt threw for 2,885 yards in 2024, tossing 24 touchdowns while leading Arizona State to the College Football Playoff. He dealt with injuries throughout this season before hitting the transfer portal afterwards. The former 4-star prospect started his career at Michigan State.
This one felt like it was wrapped up for LSU, and it still may be. However, if Leavitt leaves the LSU campus tonight and gets to Knoxville tomorrow, Tennessee would seem to be in the thick of things.
Keep in mind here that Ty Simpson is rumored to be deciding between the NFL and potentially hitting the transfer portal. Should he stay in school, Tennessee is thought of as the favorite to land the former 5-star quarterback.
So, a lot of moving parts here, and I’m sure Heupel has a plan A, B and C in his head. We’ll see how it all shakes out over the next few days.
