A number of FC Bayern stars missed out on the lone friendly before the restart — but everything is ‘positive.’
Bayern Munich kicked off the second half of its season with a rousing 5-0 friendly win over Red Bull Salzburg — but the event was marred by a number of missing players.
Star midfielder Joshua Kimmich is still dealing with an ankle issue sustained at the tail end of 2025 while defenders Sacha Boey and Alphonso Davies missed out due to illness. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer also sat due to a hamstring issue and Jamal Musiala’s first minutes back on the pitch since his devastating Club World Cup injury were further delayed.
But overall it is far from a grim bill of health, as head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed after the game.
“Some are ill, some are following individual training programs,” Kompany said in remarks as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “That’s also the case for Jamal Musiala. If he gets minutes in one of the next three games, we’d be happy. Everything is going positively. Today is just a bit too early.”
The absences afforded numerous Bayern academy talents to feature instead. All in all, hard to figure how Bayern could have made better use of the tune-up match before the restart next Sunday against Wolfsburg.
