Chelsea have told Liam Rosenior Champions League football is a “critical” target this season according to The Telegraph.

Rosenior was confirmed as the new Chelsea head coach on Tuesday, and he’s signed a six and a half year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 41-year-old will be in the stands to watch the Blues take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday evening, and his first game in charge will be in the FA Cup against Charlton on Saturday.

Champions League football critical for Liam Rosenior

Rosenior arrives at Chelsea with the club still in a good position despite Enzo Maresca parting ways half through the season.

The Blues sit fifth in the league, are in the semi finals of the Carabao Cup, whilst they are on course to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Rosenior will need to hit the ground running, and coming in part way through a season is always a big ask, especially when he’s taken such a big step up.

The target at the start of this season was reportedly Champions League football and to go on deep runs in the cup competitions.

That is still very much attainable, and The Telegraph have reported Chelsea have told Rosenior qualification for next season’s Champions League is “critical.”

Rosenior will be under pressure, and his appointment hasn’t been met with much excitement from the supporters, but the best way to win the fans over is by picking up results.

Chelsea face tough Fulham test

Under-21s boss Calum McFarlane will once again lead the team at Craven Cottage, and after an impressive performance against Manchester City on Sunday he will be looking for more of the same.

With just four points separating fifth and fourteenth the Blues really can’t afford to drop points, and are currently on a run of one win in their last eight league games.

Chelsea are boosted by the return of Moises Caicedo from suspension, whilst there’s a hope Robert Sanchez, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella can all return.
