Notts County have signed defender Luke Browne from Crystal Palace on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 20-year-old, who is understood to have made the move to Meadow Lane for a nominal fee, spent two years with the Premier League club after joining their academy from League of Ireland side Shelbourne.

Browne featured 48 times for Palace's under-18 and under-21 sides, but failed to make a first-team appearance for the Eagles.

The centre-back, who has a further 12-month option on his contract with Notts, joins the fourth-tier side side a week after Manchester United's Sonny Aljofree had his loan stay with the Magpies cut short.

Notts director of football Richard Montague said the Republic of Ireland Under-19 international is a player the club have monitored for a number of years.

"He still has a lot of development ahead of him but has all the natural attributes you look for in a defender and significant potential to improve over the coming years," Montague told the club website.
