Football: Western Kentucky EDGE transfer Koron Hayward commits to TCU

The Horned Frogs improve their pass rush with a redshirt sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida.

Paul Oyewale’s return to the TCU Horned Frogs is a major boost to the team’s pass rush, which will lose top edge rusher and two-time All-Big 12 honoree Devean Deal to graduation/eligibility. TCU made another move to aid the pass rush, securing a commitment from Western Kentucky redshirt sophomore edge Koron Hayward. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder from Jacksonville, Florida has spent three years with the Hilltoppers, compiling 28 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks along with one interception and two pass breakups in his career.

Hayward announced his commitment to the Horned Frogs on his Instagram account Wednesday. Hayward, who has played in 25 games over the last three seasons, was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2023 and was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week in 2025. A three-star prospect out of high school, Hayward signed with Western Kentucky over UAB, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, UT Martin and Alabama A&M. Hayward becomes the eighth transfer portal addition for the Horned Frogs, who currently have the No. 38 ranked portal class for 2026, according to the 247Sports composite ratings.

In addition to Deal, TCU is also losing junior edge rusher Jonathan Bax, who entered the portal and has since committed to Florida Atlantic. Among TCU’s top returning edge rushers are junior Michael Ibukun-Okeyode, sophomores Zach Chapman and Travis Jackson and freshmen Chad Woodfork, Jared Martin and John Schobel.
