The Steelers’ head coach reacts to John Harbaugh being fired.
The Baltimore Ravens shocked the NFL world on Tuesday evening when they announced they had fired head coach John Harbaugh. This came after the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Ravens in the final game of the 2025 regular season to win the AFC North and eliminate the Ravens from playoff contention.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin appeared on The Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday and was asked about Harbaugh being let go by the Ravens.
“First, I just have so much respect for Harbs,” Tomlin said. “Our stories will forever be interwoven. This rivalry that we’ve been fortunate and honored enough to be a part of, I’ve just got so much respect for him and how he’s gone about his business.”
Tomlin added that it’s unfortunate that teams seem to get impatient with head coaches in today’s sporting world.
“In terms of him being let go; Unfortunately I just think it’s a component of today’s sport culture,” Tomlin said. “And so there have been many examples of that, and so it’s unfortunate. But I’m sure that he is gonna move on. And if he chooses to coach again – I’m sure he will – and I’m sure he’ll be very successful in doing so. But more than anything, I think it’s just an example of today’s sport culture in terms of not a lot of patience and the entertainment component of what it is that we do. There’s just not a lot of longevity.”
Many have wondered if Tomlin would have met the same fate Harbaugh did had Tyler Loop made the field goal as time expired. Instead, the Steelers will host a playoff game for the first time since the 2020 season, and do so for the first time in a fully-packed Acrisure Stadium for the first time since the 2017 season.
