Rutgers Adds Talented Yet Controversial Wrestling Recruit Anthony Knox

Rutgers Wrestling adds a controversial star to team

Rutgers Wrestling has added a talented yet controversial recruit to its program today, as Anthony Knox, who spent his high school years wrestling for Saint John Vianney, has decided to sign with the program. Knox, who was regarded as one of the best wrestlers in the country during his senior season, also made headlines last season for the wrong reasons.

Last year, Knox was allegedly involved in a brawl at a postseason tournament, where he was arrested, according to NJ.com. Witnesses say he allegedly entered the bleachers and confronted spectators, which led to the brawl. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association disqualified Knox from the tournament days later, but that ruling was overturned by a judge, and he was allowed to re-enter the state tournament weeks later, where he earned his fourth state title. The incident was caught on camera by a few spectators attending the tournament. He and his father are facing charges for the incident. After several delays, their trial will begin on January 28th.

Despite the negative attention that might be brought with him, Knox, who is currently in the midst of a gap year, is one of the best wrestling prospects the state of New Jersey has ever seen. He is one of five wrestlers in the state’s history to win four individual state championships. Two others from this group include Rutgers legends Anthony Ashnault and Nick Suriano. Knox has a stellar record of 144-1 in his high school career. He was the No.1 overall 126-pounder in the nation during his senior season.

Knox was committed to play for Cornell for a long time, then surprisingly decommitted in late December. Rutgers used this opportunity to make their move, and now it appears that he will be suiting up for Rutgers in the 2026-2027 season.
