The top priority for the New York Giants this offseason is to find their next head coach. Their search got a boost of excitement on Tuesday when it was announced that the Baltimore Ravens fired their head coach, John Harbaugh, after 18 seasons.

There are a number of coaching candidates available that have had success in this league, such as Mike McCarthy and Kevin Stefanski, but Harbaugh needs to be at the top of the Giants list

It’s been reported that Harbaugh has a genuine interest in coming to New York, and if he comes into their facility for an interview, they have to seal the deal with him.

Here are the reasons why the 63-year-old head coach would be the perfect fit for Big Blue.

John Harbaugh would bring instant credibility

As everyone knows, the Giants franchise has been a disaster for the last decade and a half, and they lose more and more credibility with each passing double-digit losing season. Since Big Blue won Super Bowl XLVI, they have a regular-season win-loss record of 83-145-1

During that same span, Harbaugh has posted a win-loss record of 136-93 and guided the Ravens to victory in Super Bowl XLVII. Since he arrived in Baltimore in 2008, he has led the team to 11 double-digit winning seasons and six division titles. Since 2008, New York has only had two double-digit winning seasons and has won the NFC East just twice.

Harbaugh’s presence would give the franchise something it hasn’t had since Tom Coughlin, which is a coach with credibility and a winning history that would command respect.

He would have fans optimistic about the 2026 season

It’s well known the love that President, CEO, and co-owner John Mara has for the fan base. However, that fan base is aggravated and disappointed at the team’s losing ways and the fact that they retained general manager Joe Schoen.

Even the most die-hard Giants fans would have a hard time being optimistic with Schoen as the GM in 2026, considering he constructed a roster that has posted a regular-season record of 22-45-1 during his tenure and parted ways with players such as Saquon Barkley, Leonard Williams, and Xavier McKinney.

Getting Harbaugh to be their next coach, along with his 180-113 regular season record and his 13-11 postseason record, would have fans excited and optimistic about 2026 and beyond.

Harbaugh’s reputation precedes him

In addition to his excellent resume, he has a reputation for being a great leader who can bring out the best in his players. This could be attributed to his early days in the NFL when he was the Philadelphia Eagles Special Teams coordinator from 1998-2006 and was their defensive backs coach in 2007.

As a special teams coordinator, you coach both offensive and defensive players and build a rapport with them. It goes without saying that the Giants need help in all three phases of the game. Although he would have his coordinators run the offense, defense, and special teams, he have his hands in all three phases of the game.

He would also be beneficial to Jaxson Dart as he’s had experience and success with young quarterbacks. In 2008, he and rookie Joe Flacco guided the Ravens to an 11-5 record and a berth in the AFC Champions Game. Then in 2018, he helped rookie Lamar Jackson lead the team to a 10-6 record and an AFC North division title.

On the surface, you would think of Harbaugh as an offense-minded coach, but you can’t deny his track record with young quarterbacks. He will have the right pieces in place for Dart to have a successful sophomore season.
