Trinidad Chambliss’ rapid rise from a backup Division II transfer to an Ole Miss starter has been nothing short of extraordinary. But his parents, Trent and Cheryl Chambliss, have worked to keep his meteoric ascent in perspective.
“If you’re not having fun, then what’s the whole point?” Trent told the Daily Journal in October 2025. “But you can’t win every game. So therefore, how do you end up learning? How do you grow? … What do we do the next day? And what do we learn? What are they teaching us?”
The couple raised their two sons, Trinidad and his older brother, Tyler, in Grand Rapids, Mich. Trent is a high school administrator, while Cheryl, now retired, spent her career as a juvenile probation officer, per Yahoo! Sports. Trinidad's father introduced him to the sport and even coached football at his son's high school.
Those early lessons followed the quarterback after he transferred from Division II Ferris State University to the University of Mississippi in 2025. Trinidad unexpectedly moved into the starting lineup after the starter quarterback was injured and has since helped the Rebels become a contender in the 2025 college football playoffs, per Grand Rapids Magazine. Trent and Cheryl have continued to be a constant presence at his games.

There, they met while practicing for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and got to know each other more through their mutual friends.
Eventually, the couple tied the knot and went on to welcome two sons: Tyler and Trinidad.
Trent played football in college
Trinidad seems to have inherited his love for football from his dad. Trent moved from his hometown to Grand Rapids to play football at Grand Rapids Community College. But unlike his son, Trent was an offensive lineman, per the Clarion Ledger.
Trinidad's father went on to coach football at Forest Hills Northern, a local high school that Trinidad later attended. According to Grand Rapids Magazine, the future Ole Miss quarterback would play on the school's fields as a kid and starred on its football and basketball teams as a student.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Trent has worked at a number of schools in Michigan and has served as the assistant principal of Wyoming High School since 2022.
Cheryl worked as a probation officer
According to the Daily Journal, Cheryl worked as a juvenile probation officer for 30 years before she retired. After saying goodbye to her decades-long career, she started working as a substitute teacher and as a receptionist for a mental health practice in Michigan.
"Cheryl’s extensive experience at the Juvenile Court has equipped her with a deep understanding of the human experience and the complexities individuals face," her bio reads. "This insight allows her to address inquiries, provide information, and guide you through the process, ensuring that each person feels heard, supported, and well-informed."

The couple told the Daily Journal in October 2025 that they agreed Cheryl would name their second child if they were a girl and Trent would if they were a boy. Though his wife claimed that Trinidad was named after the Spanish word for "The Trinity," Trent argued that boxer Félix Trinidad inspired the moniker more.
"I kind of thought, ‘Man, this name Trinidad, boy, that sounds like a good name,’ ” he explained. “And then we ended up having the correlation of The Holy Trinity and the religious and spiritual connection, which made it even better.”

Trinidad was involved in a wide array of sports from an early age, and, according to Cheryl, he "always had a ball in his hand."
Though he also played soccer, baseball and basketball, Trinidad ultimately fell in love with football. Trent, who was coaching at the time, began teaching his son quarterback drills during his meetings when Trinidad was just 6 or 7 years old.
His parents recalled playfully hitting him with pool noodles during his progressions, a routine that eventually drew in a growing group of neighborhood kids for daily practices.
"Before you knew it, he had a whole team of kids, like you were watching a little Pee Wee practice or just a school team,” Cheryl told the Daily Journal. "And Trinidad just absolutely loved it. It wasn’t something that he was forced to do, it wasn’t something that he begrudged. He thoroughly enjoyed it.”

The quarterback and his mom told the Clarion Ledger that they were able to continue their pre-game tradition even after he transferred to Ole Miss.
After Chambliss runs out of the tunnels, he finds his mom in the stands and the two recite a prayer together.
“It's been surreal and it's been amazing and we just feel it's such a blessing," Cheryl said, referring to her son's success at the university. "It's been really great for people to see what we already knew about our son, that he has talent, that he has ability to lead."
