Virginia Tech: Troy CB Jaquez White commits to Hokies

Hokies beat out Tennessee for White.

Virginia Tech coach James Franklin continues to rebuild Virginia Tech’s 2026 roster within the two-week NCAA transfer portal window. On Wednesday evening, the Hokies landed a commitment from Troy cornerback Jaquez White.

White chose the Hokies over Tennessee, so this was a major victory for Franklin and defensive coordinator Brent Pry. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound White is the second cornerback to commit to the Hokies this week, following former UConn cornerback Cam Chadwick.

A native of Blackshear, Georgia, White played high school football at Pierce County High School. He spent the first two years of his college career at Washburn before moving up a level to Troy. White crushed it at Troy last season, playing 14 games and finishing with 67 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, 11 passes defensed, three interceptions and one sack.

Pro Football Focus recognized White as the ninth-highest-graded cornerback in all of college football last season.

The Hokies have seen several defensive backs from last season enter the transfer portal: Dante Lovett, Krystian Williams, Joe Reddish, Caleb Brown and Christian Ellis. Lovett landed at UCLA, while Ellis, who had one good game and quit, transferred to Virginia. The Hokies have seven cornerbacks returning from last season, and added two in the 2026 recruiting class.

White is a big get and an immediate starter for Tech in 2026.
