Outlook

Despite growing up in State College and dreaming of donning a Penn State uniform, Sheffey did not receive an offer from PSU, given that their running back room was already loaded and they already had a commitment from a more highly-rated fellow 2026 RB recruit in Messiah Mickens. As a result, Sheffey committed to Syracuse in February 2024. However, once James Franklin was fired and later took the head coaching job at Virginia Tech, Mickens flipped to the Hokies. Shortly afterwards, D’Antae decommitted from Syracuse and received an offer from Missouri before Matt Campbell’s staff offered him, securing the State High product’s commitment to the hometown team.

D’Antae will be joining a running back room in transition, with the new coaching staff hitting the transfer portal hard to fill in the vacancies left by Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen being off to the NFL and with Cam Wallace and Corey Smith entering the portal. That being said, he won’t be forced into action with Quinton Martin and Tikey Hayes returning, as well the portal additions of Carson Hansen and James Peoples. One look at his highlight reel above shows you that PSU is getting a guy who while he might not have top-line speed, is a shift and smooth runner with great vision who shows patience and precision hitting the hole. That alone, makes him worth having on your roster.
