Should Marc Guehi choose another destination, Liverpool may consider a centre-back about whom Real Madrid remain uncertain.

Guehi is still at the top of Liverpool’s list, but that could change if he suddenly becomes unavailable.

The Palace defender is interested in a move to Anfield, though there is a chance he could be sold before that happens.

The Reds are more likely to pursue him in the summer, but they’re already exploring alternatives just in case he moves earlier.

Cesc Fabregas’ Como side is quickly building a reputation for developing young talent.

Jacobo Ramon, signed from Real Madrid earlier this year, is already turning heads across Europe. Both Liverpool and Chelsea are tracking the 21-year-old centre-back, who has been catching the eye with his performances in Italy.

But there are complications. While Como hold his contract until 2030, Real Madrid included some key clauses in the deal that could impact any future move.

CaughtOffside explained: “The Spanish defender is under contract until 2030, a long-term deal that reflects how highly Como rate him. However, crucial clauses included in his contract mean any transfer is far from straightforward.

“Real Madrid inserted an €8 million buy-back option and a 50% sell-on clause when they allowed him to leave, ensuring they maintain significant influence over Ramón’s future.”

Madrid recognised what they were losing and made sure to include terms that keep them involved in Ramon’s career path.

It is possible they could choose to activate the buy-back clause, bringing him back for what would be considered a bargain fee in today’s market.

Ramon cannot replace Guehi as the ideal signing for Liverpool

Liverpool fans are likely to want more than just Ramon in place of Guehi.

There is a level of quality in the Spaniard, but the lack of experience at the top level could be an issue.

Guehi, meanwhile, is moving closer to joining Man City, and it will not be long before he comes to Anfield as a rival.

The idea of adding another younger player to the back line could come with its own set of issues. There is still a need for stability and leadership at the back that should not be overlooked.

No one would mind seeing Ramon added to the squad. But if Liverpool are serious about contending for trophies, Guehi seems like the obvious choice.
