Michael Olise and Luis Díaz dazzled for Bayern Munich in an 8-1 thrashing of Wolfsburg to start the year, with head of sport Max Eberl saying they evoked memories of star wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry.
More than six years after the iconic Dutchman and Frenchman left, a wing duo is once again delighting Bayern fans.
"Olise is, to a certain extent, the new Robben. And with Lucho on the other side, he is more the Ribéry type," Eberl told reporters on Sunday.
"So we have the delicate, elegant, creative one with Michael, and we have a bit of the creative chaos-maker with Lucho."
Treble winners Ribéry and Robben shone for Bayern for a decade and gained the joint nickname "Robbery." Now Frenchman Olise in his second season and Colombian Luis Díaz, who signed from Liverpool in July, continually impress 75,000 home spectators with technique, tricks and a thirst for goals.
Both were scorers and providers on Sunday and were heavily involved in Wolfsburg's heaviest defeat in Bundesliga history. Bayern extended their Bundesliga lead at the near halfway mark to 11 points.
But coach Vincent Kompany was more cautious than his boss Eberl about making comparisons.
"I would not compare them to Robben and Ribéry yet. I have too much respect for those two wingers, whom I played against," the former SV Hamburg and Manchester City defender said.
"If at some point in the end the big titles follow, then perhaps we can talk about it."
Bayern next visit Cologne on Wednesday in a rare midweek slate of Bundesliga fixtures.
