Syracuse football: a look at the 2026 offense

Running through the offensive roster

While there is still another week of the transfer portal, let’s try and make some sense of the 2026 Syracuse Orange roster as it stands right now. Today we’ll do the offense and tomorrow, defense and special teams.

Quarterback: Steve Angeli, Amari Odom, Rich Belin, Joseph Filardi, Zaid Lott

Angeli’s return from injury will be monitored all spring and summer. Odom adds an experienced quarterback, which was missing last season. Fran Brown said he wanted to add two quarterbacks from the portal so even with Odom, keep an eye out of another transfer QB. Even though both Angeli and Odom should have two seasons, these days you never know. Lott is the only incoming freshman and he is on campus this spring.

Running Back: Ju’Juan Johnson, Ahmad Miller, Tylik Hill, Malachi Coleman, Shavane Anderson, Tyler Chandler

A largely unproven group (at this level) so it will be a group to watch this spring. Miller and Johnson didn’t transfer to sit, but Hill showed flashes last season. Will we get more of a committee approach this year?

Tight End: David Clement, Jamie Tremble, Elijah Washington-Baker, Daunte Bacheyie, Wyatt Bowman, Carter Bashir, Michael Smith

Tremble is still listed at both positions, so we’ll include him with both. The Orange need someone to step up to replace Dan Villari’s production in the passing game and this group keeps with the unproven theme on this side of the ball.

Wide Receiver: Umari Hatcher (?), Tyshawn Russell, Darius Johnon, Darien Williams, Davion Kerr, Julian McFadden, Terrell Wilfong, Zamondre Merriweather, Cole Weaver, Elijah Moore, Calvin Russell, Amare Gough, Darnell Stokes, BJ Garrett, Phoenix Henriquez, Shemaj Henry, Nau’jour Grainger

The departures of Cook, Gill and Ross mean that Syracuse went from a position returning a ton of production, to one that is full of newcomers. We assume Hatcher gets his medical redshirt approved, but if not the Orange added size and experience on the outside with Merriweather and Weaver. Obviously Russell will get a lot of eyes on him this spring, but this group has some other intriguing players that the staff is very high on.

Offensive Line: Joe Cruz, Byron Washington, Kam Pringle, Zach Rice, Trevion Mack, Matthew Hawn, Kahlil Stewart, Naquil Bertrand, Skylar Harvey, D’Joni Scatliffe, Travis Brown-Miller, Vito Shevchenko, Kardiear Shepherd, Jayden Mann, Javeion Cooper, JoJo White, Brayden Charney, Ted Olsen, Jackson Iak, Adam Boeheim

The biggest question mark on this side of the ball by far. We know that the staff loved Washington and Hawn so as they head into year two, do they both emerge to become full-time starters. Will Cruz get first shot at center? Pringle and Rice were highly-regarded recruits so can new OL coach Juan Castillo unlock that talent?

As of this writing, the Orange haven’t added a transfer lineman, which is surprising to say the least. We’ll see if that changes in the final week.
