PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) – The Steelers have hardly been competitive in a playoff game during their postseason drought, which dates back to the 2016 season.
Against Houston, Pittsburgh showed plenty of fight for the first three quarters, but was doomed by a lack of offensive production and a 23-point fourth quarter by the Texans. As a result, the Steelers lost 30-6 to the Texans.
Aaron Rodgers struggled in what could very well be his final NFL game.
“I’m not going to make any emotional decisions,” Rodgers said when asked if this outcome affects his decision on whether he wants to continue his career.
Rodgers completed 17 out of 33 passes for 146 yards and turned the ball over twice. In fact, the Steelers offense gave up more points off turnovers (14) than they produced (6).
The first takeaway by Houston proved to be the turning point. In a 10-6 game, the 42-year-old lost the ball off a strip sack, which led to Sheldon Rankins scooping it up and scoring a touchdown.
After Houston padded the lead with a Woody Marks touchdown run, Calen Bullock returned a Rodgers interception 50 yards for a pick-6.
The Steelers offense only amassed 175 total yards and averaged 3.1 yards per play. On third down, they converted just twice on 14 opportunities.
The unit couldn’t do much following three turnovers by the Steelers’ defense.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s postseason losing streak extends to seven games, which is tied for the longest by an NFL head coach.
“I just wish we could’ve performed better,” Tomlin said.
