Sarge may be on his way to MLS
One of the expectations that has emerged for the current USMNT roster pool is that players need to be challenging themselves at the highest level. Throughout his career, Josh Sargent has reached for that goal from his first professional contract with Werder Bremen to playing in the Premier League and Championship for Norwich City. At 25 he seems to have found a level that fits his talents and over the past three seasons has 13, 16, and 15 goals for the Canaries while notching seven so far in this campaign. He has also emerged as a leader for the team and worn the captain’s armband in recent years.
If a report from Fabrizio Ramiro is accurate, that may be changing. According to the reporter Toronto FC is in talks to bring the player to North America for an $18 million fee.
Throughout his career with his country, Sargent’s club performances have not translated in international play. In 23 appearances, including 14 starts, he has just two goals and one assist. Last year he played just 62 minutes for the red, white, and blue and it seems like he has fallen out of the conversation when it comes to the World Cup roster discussion. It will be interesting to see what this move does for his prospects of representing the country this summer or if he will need to reset with the national team once the tournament concludes.
