Vincent Kompany wants Bayern Munich to continue scorching hot form vs. FC Köln

FC Bayern wants to keep up its high scoring ways.

If Bayern Munich can score eight goals against FC Köln like it did vs. VfL Wolfsburg, Vincent Kompamy will be a very happy man. Who wouldn’t?

The Belgian is not expecting that many goals, but would like to see his team continue onward with that style of play and mindset.

“I hope this continues for a while. But what the boys showed on Sunday isn’t normal, we mustn’t forget that. The motivation is there, we want to see how far we can take this form. We know it’s not easy in Köln, we had a very tough first half in the cup there, it took 90 minutes to make the difference. But we feel we can always score goals,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

As always, the health of the squad was a big point of discussion at the head coach’s press conference. Interestingly. Kompany was finally asked about the status of Sacha Boey and gave a somewhat evasive response, but it does acknowledge a long-term sickness that was reportedly been going on since mid-December.

“From a purely sporting perspective, he was unlucky; he was in a good phase – and then got sick at the wrong time. Now it’s just a matter of waiting until he’s healthy again,” Kompany said.

Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund also jumped in to address Boey’s bizarre situation.

“It was a bitter blow that he was ill for so long and still isn’t fit. We needed him during this phase; the most important thing is that he gets fit again. But there’s a lot of competition for that position,” Freund stated.

With Boey sick, the right-back position is a bit banged up because of the injury sustained by Josip Stanišić as well. In addition, Kompany acknowledged that Alphonso Davies is still sick as well.

“Stani will no longer play in January. And even in February, he could be out for a few weeks. It depends on his recovery,” Kompany said. “(Davies is) ill, it’s winter so that can always happen. He didn’t really have a preparation, and now he’s sick, so it’s not ideal. I hope he can be back in training this week.”

Illness seems to be an issue at the moment as Serge Gnabry was also felled last weekend.

“Serge was ill on Sunday. It’s January, so a few players are not feeling well, it’s normal. Serge has shown a lot of quality for us this season. We shouldn’t forget that. He can play on the left, on the right, at the #10 position and always brings his quality. When he’s fit, Michael (Olise), Lucho (Díaz), Lenny (Karl) could always need a break,” Kompany said.

Finally, Kompany talked over the potential returns for Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, who are both close, but not quite ready yet.

“Everything is going well with Jamal, he’s taking part in almost everything and doing a lot of extra work. That’s a good sign – and he’ll be back soon. Maybe I’ll be able to share some news at the next press conference. Tomorrow’s game is still too early for Kimmich as well – he hasn’t trained with the team yet,” Kompany said.
