Xabi Alonso’s dismissal from Real Madrid continues to send shockwaves far beyond the football world.

While former players, managers, and pundits have already weighed in, the debate has now crossed into another sporting arena altogether.

This time, criticism has come from an unexpected but powerful voice – UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Known for his discipline, directness, and uncompromising mindset, Khabib did not hold back when addressing the situation surrounding Alonso’s exit.

What did he say?

From his perspective, the issue at Real Madrid goes beyond tactics or results. For the former lightweight champion, authority inside a dressing room is non-negotiable.

Speaking bluntly, he wrote, “If the team environment does not allow you to follow your instructions, something is wrong.”

In his opinion, when players fail to respect instructions, even elite squads lose clarity and direction.

The UFC icon went a step further by openly backing Alonso’s coaching credentials. Rather than questioning the Spaniard’s ability, Khabib placed him among the elite in world football.

“I think Xabi Alonso is among the three best coaches in football today. If a team doesn’t work with him, you have to change the players, not the coach.”

Khabib mentioned that abandoning such a project sends the wrong message, especially at a club that demands constant success.

“A good coach imposes his style without creating conflict; the problem is not with him, but with the squad.”

Still, Khabib acknowledged the unique pressures that come with managing a club like Real Madrid.

“I am convinced that no coach can manage a squad like this at Real Madrid. There are inconsistent players who need to be let go.”

His strongest words were reserved for Alonso himself. Reflecting on how quickly circumstances changed, Khabib highlighted what he sees as a lack of loyalty from the club.

“There is nothing like loyalty. A year ago, they begged him, and now they are firing him for the spoiled children. Xabi, you are the best,” he concluded.
