Quarterback might not be part of decision-making process, but Giants hope he can help sway their primary target.
The New York Giants have pulled out all the stops in their effort to convince John Harbaugh to become their next head coach. That apparently includes the presence of quarterback Jaxson Dart in meetings with Harbaugh Wednesday at the Giants’ facility in East Rutherford, N.J.
Multiple reports have indicated that Dart was on-hand, along with John and Chris Mara, Steve Tisch, and GM Joe Schoen as the Giants have made their in-person pitch to Harbaugh.
The Giants have also had Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin touch base with Harbaugh. Even fired former coach Brian Daboll has vouched for the organization as a great place to work.
There is no word on the extent of Dart’s involvement on Wednesday. Being comfortable with the quarterback he will be inheriting is part of Harbaugh’s decision-making process, so perhaps it isn’t shocking that the Giants would at least have Dart on hand to meet the would-be coach.
At his end-of-season press conference, Schoen said Dart, who just completed his rookie season, would not be part of the decision-making process on the next coach.
“Input? He might meet somebody, but I don’t know about input,” Schoen said. “I love him, but he’s 22 years old or 23, whatever he is, and he’s got one year in the league. Could he potentially meet a candidate? Sure, but we’ll make the decision ultimately.”
