“Very confident” – Chelsea defender makes fans feel a lot more comfortable about Rosenior after cringey memes

Liam Rosenior’s start at Chelsea has been a little strange – people are very concerned about whether he’s up to it, but in quite superficial terms.

Certainly some of the cringey quotes or videos of team talks that have been emerging in the last few days are putting the fear into us that he won’t be able to command a dressing room. But Trevoh Chalobah seems convinced.

“It’s been a lot of meetings, a lot of tactical work… he wants us to trust in ourselves and rely on each other, knowing the quality we have. He’s very confident. He gets his message across quite firmly,” the defender said in an interview with the BBC today.

“He knows what he wants, and he’s very firm. There’s a real clarity in what he wants. You can see the boys are straight away engaged… A manager’s a manager, we just have to be ready for what he wants from us in games.

That’s comforting to hear. For all of Enzo Maresca’s faults, the players did really buy into him and his personality, and we have to hope they’ll do the same with Rosenior. Ultimately it’s all about results – if he wins games, the authority will come naturally.

If he struggles early on, it could lock him into a death spiral where he can’t get the dressing room onside, and therefore can’t get them to do the things he needs them to for him to get results.

The manager made some big claims about his philosophy of team selection – we’re interested to see whether he can back up those words in a very difficult environment.

Rosenior also spoke about some of the player’s who missed last night’s defeat against Arsenal. It sounds like a couple of them could be back, but the others are going to struggle.
