Out of nowhere today, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) CEO Dana White revealed that former two-division champion Conor McGregorwill not fightMichael Chandler at the historic UFC White House event scheduled for June 2026, bluntly dismissing the matchup by saying, “No, that was a couple of years ago.”
It didn’t take long for McGregor to respond.
In a now-deleted tweet, the Irish superstar brushed off the news and made it clear he’s unfazed by the UFC’s change in plans.
McGregor vs. Chandler was originally scheduled to headline UFC 303 during International Fight Week in 2024 after the two served as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter. However, the long-awaited showdown fell apart when McGregor withdrew due to a broken pinky toe, once again derailing his comeback.
Chandler, meanwhile, put his career on hold for nearly a full year waiting for the McGregor payday — a gamble that never paid off. The former Bellator champion eventually returned to action, but the McGregor fight has now fallen through for a second time and appears to be dead altogether.
That said, White has been known to change course — or deliberately throw people off — especially when McGregor is involved.
As for “The Notorious,” the UFC’s biggest star has not competed since suffering a gruesome leg break against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021. While his return has been teased repeatedly over the years, McGregor has insisted he’s finally in the right headspace to make his long-awaited comeback — whether that’s at the White House or against an entirely different opponent.
The UFC head honcho will start matchmaking for UFC White House after UFC 325 on Feb. 1.
