Duke has gone from 3-6 to 12-6
Kara Lawson’s Duke team is on an almighty heater right now. In the beginning of the season, her Blue Devils struggled and at one point lost four straight, culminating with a 93-77 loss to LSU on December 4th.
They haven’t lost since.
The win streak stretched to nine Thursday with a 65-58 win over Virginia.
Not that it was easy.
Duke used ball movement to pull away from the Cavaliers in the first half, taking a 35-24 lead into halftime, but Virginia battled back, going up 45-44 at the end of the third.
The Cavaliers took a 51-45 lead in the fourth before Duke began to rally behind layups by Arianna Roberson and Toby Fournier to cut the lead to 51-49.
Roberson tied the game 51-51 and then Duke took the lead on an Ashlon Jackson three with 4:54 to play and never trailed again.
Toby Fournier led the way with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Jackson finished with 10 and Arianna Roberson, who is carving out a bigger role off the bench, had 10 points and 6 boards in 21 minutes.
Duke has a chance to make it 10 straight next time out with a win over Georgia Tech on Sunday.
