Chelsea have discussed the possibility of signing Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Blues are looking for defensive reinforcement, and he is one of the names on their radar.

Chelsea have pursued an aggressive youth policy despite the team crying out for experience.

However, the West Londoners could bring in the 28-year-old to add key Premier League experience to a leaky backline.

Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight games, with the rearguard struggling spectacularly. The Blues are plotting winter reinforcement.

They have Jeremy Jacquet and Jacobo Ramon on the transfer shortlist, but ‘Senesi is another older name Chelsea have discussed’.

Senesi is adept at operating in an aggressive backline and would fit seamlessly into the Chelsea set-up. He is also an excellent (progressive) ball distributor.

Interestingly, Senesi’s contract with Bournemouth expires this summer, and the FIFA Club World Cup champions should seize the opportunity to sign him earlier than other suitors.

The report claims Juventus and Barcelona are pushing more seriously for his signature, but this is precisely the kind of addition Chelsea need right now.

Senesi offers reliability, leadership, and a left-footed balance that immediately improves build-up play from the back.

With Levi Colwill still sidelined, Liam Rosenior requires a defender who can step in without disrupting the structure, and Senesi’s Premier League-hardened profile makes him a natural fit.

Crucially, his arrival should also accelerate a clear decision on Benoit Badiashile.

The Frenchman has struggled for consistency and confidence, and selling him would free both space and funds for a more dependable option.

Senesi is calmer in duels, sharper in his positioning and far more assertive in possession, attributes Chelsea’s fragile defence desperately needs.

If the Blues are serious about stabilising their rearguard, this is a pragmatic, low-risk upgrade on what they currently have.
