Barcelona are already laying the groundwork for next season, and one high-profile attacking name continues to feature prominently in their internal discussions.

According to a recent report from MARCA, Barcelona remain interested in Julian Alvarez, despite the striker not enjoying his most productive campaign with Atletico Madrid.

It is known that Barcelona’s sporting management is actively developing a roadmap for the attacking unit ahead of the summer transfer window.

While no final decisions have been taken, the club feels the future of the forward line must be addressed sooner rather than later.

That planning is being led by sporting director Deco, alongside head coach Hansi Flick, both of whom reportedly rate Alvarez very highly.

Barcelona need a forward

The context is important. Robert Lewandowski is approaching the final phase of his contract, and Barcelona are well aware that a long-term successor will be needed.

While Lewandowski remains important in the present, the club do not want to be caught unprepared when the transition eventually arrives.

Alvarez is one of several profiles under consideration, and he stands out due to his age, mobility, and ability to function in different attacking roles.

From a sporting perspective, the interest may raise eyebrows. Alvarez has not had a standout season, recording 11 goals and five assists in 26 appearances so far.

Those numbers are respectable but not spectacular for a striker valued at the very top level.

Even so, the main obstacle is financial, as any move for Alvarez would be extremely complex.

The expected price is around €100 million, a figure that places the operation firmly in the “difficult” category for Barcelona.

As with almost every transfer window, uncertainty surrounding Financial Fair Play remains central to Deco’s work.

Compliance with the 1:1 rule will determine how ambitious the club can be, and while there is optimism that this will be resolved by the summer, nothing is guaranteed.
