Barcelona fans were greeted with a bombshell update earlier today as it emerged that teenage gem Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez was all set to leave the club in the ongoing transfer window.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is keen on moving so as to play regularly and continue his development, with his €6 million release clause making it feasible for clubs to swoop him away.

As already reported, Manchester City are one of the suitors for Dro, and have presented a proposal to secure his services.

Now, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have joined Manchester City as contenders to sign Dro from Barcelona.

The update states that several other top European clubs are also in the mix to secure the Spanish teenager’s services as he nears a departure.

A product of La Masia, Dro made his first-team breakthrough with Barcelona in the ongoing season after winning over manager Hansi Flick’s trust during the pre-season tour of Asia.

The youngster, who turned 18 years old earlier this month, has played five first-team matches, featuring for a total of 148 minutes, in which he has one assist.

Considering that Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo are ahead of him in the pecking order, minutes were not going to be easy. But Flick had shown great trust in the youngster’s abilities and saw him as a big part of the plans for the future.

Barcelona, too, were planning to hand him a new contract now that he had turned 18. However, Dro has decided to move on in search of minutes.

Ironically, the chances of him playing regularly at two of the aforementioned three clubs – Chelsea and Manchester City – would be extremely slim.

Borussia Dortmund, though, could be a feasible option given their history of backing and nurturing young talents.
