Bavarian Loan Works: Christoph Freund dishes on three Bayern Munich loanees

Freund: “We're in contact with the lads…they're on the right track"

Bayern Munich sporting director, Christoph Freund, was asked recently about potentially terminating Jonah Kusi-Asare’s loan at Fulham early. He answered the question and then talked about two more loanees that are loaned out a little closer to home.

When asked about Kusi-Asare’s loan to the Premier League’s Fulham, Freund had this to say, “It’s not our plan to end a loan spell early. We’re happy with how the boys are developing. Jonah Kusi-Asare has to fight his way in, he hasn’t played that many minutes yet, it’s the Premier League. His development is positive, we’re in contact with Fulham and it’s a challenge for him; he’s pushing hard and developing well.” The thought of terminating the loan could have stemmed from Peretz’ situation in Hamburg, but this seems different. At this point in Kusi-Asare’s development, Fulham is probably a great spot for him to be.

Freund went onto talk about Noel Aseko, who is on loan in the 2. Bundesliga with Hannover 96: “Noël Aséko is doing really well at Hannover, and it was important for him to stay fit over a longer period of time. He’s on the right track, it’s a great loan.” He has appeared in all 17 league marches — starting in 15 of them — plus two matches and a handful of call ups to the Germany U-21s since going on loan. He has scored two goals and assisted three.

Jonathan Asp-Jensen was the last Bayern loanee that Freund mentioned. He called him “an absolute leader,“ and added that ”he’s scored goals and is developing superbly.“ Asp has scored four goals and recorded six assists in 17 league matches and has also appeared in three cup matches. Despite a subpar season for the team, Asp is shining bright.

Freund ended his comments with this, “We’re in contact with the lads, the crucial factor is how they develop – because the jump to Bayern is a big one. But they’re on the right track.” Who are you the most excited loanee to watch for the rest of the season?
