Chelsea have just beaten Brentford 2-0 at home, a pretty jammy results all things told.

The away side had the better of the game, but Chelsea managed to score two and get the job done.

Delap advances his case to be starting striker further with another positive performance

A key figure today was Liam Delap. The striker has been gradually winning the battle to be our starting striker in the last few weeks, and while an illness from midweek meant he wasn’t ready to start today, even his 20 minutes off the bench have been enough to push his case even more.

That was really the turning point of the game, turning it from a very dodgy situation to a much more comfortable one for the home team.

Delap’s rival for the 9 spot, Joao Pedro, did score today, slamming in a lovely finish after a blocked clearance fell to him in the box. But in terms of overall contribution, he’s just not up to it. He doesn’t offer as much running in behind or as much pressing as former Ipswich man Delap.

In other news…

Chelsea have not been at their best today, but they look to have sealed a win with a penalty from Cole Palmer who made no mistake from the spot after Delap was brought down in the Brentford box. Let’s hope that’s the first step towards the attacking midfielder finding some form.

Tosin was a slightly controversial pick at centre-back for Chelsea today given he’s not our most popular defender, but to be fair to him he did really well in this game until going off injured. We just have to hope it’s nothing serious.
