Basketball roundup: Waverly boys edge Sexton, Holt girls top Portland

WAVERLY 69, SEXTON 67

Derek Thomas II finished with 28 points to lead the Warriors to a victory over Sexton at Don Johnson Fieldhouse. Xavier Pendergrass has eight of his 17 points in the final quarter for Waverly. Keyshawn Summerville lead Sexton with 29 points, which included 14 in the final quarter. Kivon Brown finished with 12 points for the J-Dubbs.

DwWITT 46, CHARLOTTE 31

Nate Mullen and Lucas Brandell hit big 3s while helping the Panthers pull away in the second half for a nonleague win over Charlotte. Landon Kurncz had 18 points and Casey Flannery and Rome Dunham each scored 10 points for DeWitt.

GIRLS

HOLT 50, PORTLAND 47

PORTLAND — Grace Gaudard had 19 points and 10 rebounds while helping the Rams to a nonleague victory over CAAC White leader Portland (8-2). Olivia Gadson had nine points and Maya Barker had eight points and eight rebounds for Holt (7-2). Lilly Thelen had 18 points and Summer Stopczynski scored 10 points for the Raiders.
