Brentford’s ‘Mr Reliable’ Vitaly Janelt has put pen to paper on a new deal that will extend his stay at Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2030, with a club option of a further year.

In the same week that a deal for exciting Belgian teenager Kaye Furo was announced, the Bees have also secured the services of their long-serving midfielder, who has been in outstanding form in his sixth season at the club.

The 27-year-old has become an influential figure both on and off the pitch since moving to west London from VfL Bochum in 2020, bringing composure and quality to the side that won promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign.

Since arriving in TW8, only Bryan Mbeumo (179) has made more starts for the Bees than the German (177), whose ability to elevate the performance levels of his team-mates was recently hailed by head coach Keith Andrews.

Janelt has nailed down a place in Brentford’s starting XI in recent months, and his consistent run in the side has coincided with the Bees climbing to fifth in the Premier League table and making an unbeaten start to 2026.

Only five players - Bruno Fernandes, Rayan Cherki, Jack Grealish, Mohammed Kudus and Granit Xhaka - have registered more Premier League assists this season than Janelt (four), who notably laid on two goals in the Bees’ 4-2 win at Everton earlier this month.

The 2025/26 campaign already marks Janelt’s joint-best return for assists, but it is his all-round game that has impressed, with Andrews praising the “real solidity and calmness” the former Germany youth international brings to the Brentford midfield.

Among the side’s most accurate passers this season with a completion rate of 87 per cent, Janelt also averages more interceptions per 90 (2.1) than any of his team-mates this term. In fact, only three players with 500+ top-flight minutes - Lewis Cook, Moisés Caicedo and Joël Veltman - average more.

Janelt is a proven performer and a key man for the west Londoners both on and off the pitch.

The addition of a teenage striker with a bright future has grabbed the headlines, but this new deal for one of the cornerstones of their Premier League journey shows Brentford remain firmly focused on the here and now.
