The trenches have been addressed.
The trenches have been the primary area of concern for Alabama fans, as the roster has suffered much attrition on both lines of scrimmage. Yesterday, Alabama added three offensive linemen in effort to fill out the depth chart on that side of the ball. Last night into today, they have filled out the defensive side.
First, they added behemoth DT Terrance Green from Oregon. As Colin Gay notes, he will likely man the nose in Tuscaloosa.
A 6-foot-5, 330-pound mammoth of a lineman, Green primarily lined up over the A or B gap for the Ducks in 2025, working as a rotation mainstay for the interior of the line.
It’s something Alabama needs after the losses of both Tim Keenan III and James Smith heading into the 2026 season. Bingley-Jones will help with the interior, as will returners London Simmons and Edric Hill. But Green gives Alabama another body to rotate in and gives the Crimson Tide depth.
Jeremiah Beaman was next man up when Keenan was hurt in 2025, but he suffered a season ending injury early that he will need to recover from. If he can’t go to open the season, expect a rotation of Green and Bingley-Jones in the middle.
Today, the Tide added Desmond Umeozulu from South Carolina. Umeozulu primarily backed up star Dylan Stewart the past two seasons, but does have significant game experience.
Umeozulu, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound edge rusher from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, just completed his junior year with the Gamecocks and will have one season of eligibility remaining. In his three seasons with South Carolina, he has totaled 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks. During the 2025 season, Umeozulu appeared in all 12 contests with one start, recording 19 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, and his first career solo sack.
As a high school prospect from C.H. Flowers High School, he was rated as a four-star in South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class, the No. 113 overall prospect, the No. 15 edge, and the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland.
Umeozulu reportedly entered the portal looking for a bigger role after Stewart opted to return to school. It’s somewhat curious that he is coming to Alabama with Yhonzae Pierre also returning, but perhaps he will rotate at Bandit opposite Pierre on passing downs. It will be interesting to see how the defensive front lines up.
Pierre will certainly start at Wolf and London Simmons will almost assuredly get the nod at DT, but everything else will be decided in camp. Devan Thompkins from USC didn’t come here to sit, but will he play defensive end or Bandit? As mentioned above, Green and Bingley-Jones will factor in the middle. At the other end and/or Bandit spot you still have Edric Hill, Isaia Faga, Steve Mboumoua, and Caleb Smith who transferred in from Washington. It’s way too early to project and a few guys might be versatile enough to move inside or out, but here is a stab at a potential depth chart without incoming freshmen.
DT: London Simmons, Edric Hill, Isaia Faga, Steve Mboumoua
NT: Jeremiah Beaman, Terrance Green, Kedrick Bingley-Jones
Bandit: Devan Thompkins, Fatutoa Henry, Caleb Smith
Wolf: Yhonzae Pierre, Justin Hill OR Desmond Umeozulu
