Max Verstappen might be the most notorious racing driver on the planet now. For five seasons, he has been one of the main protagonists in an F1 title fight.

Away from the track, the Dutchman spends a lot of time with his family, as well as on his sim racing rig, which is the sort of thing that has developed a long way over the last decade.

Nowadays, most Formula 1 drivers are prohibited from taking part in dangerous activities, and have clauses in their contracts which prevent them from doing things such as skiing.

After all, the hopes of an entire team hinge on someone like Verstappen, so it’s crucial that he’s available for every race, every year.

He fell just two points shy of matching Michael Schumacher’s record for the most consecutive championships in 2025.

This season, he faces a slightly more difficult task, as his Red Bull team brings their very own engines to play for the first time. No one knows who will be most competitive.

Max Verstappen picked PSV Eindhoven over Ajax after developing a ‘certain bond’

Picking a football team is a rite of passage for most young children in Europe. Sometimes, at a very young age, decisions are made which last a lifetime.

That also happened to be the case for a young Verstappen, who picked which football team he would go on to support for a while when spending time with his father.

Invited to watch PSV Eindhoven play football often, he picked them over Ajax as a young child, and it’s a decision that he doesn’t regret.

“That started with my father when he was sponsored by Philips,” he told Formule1.nl in 2024. “At that time, he was regularly invited to PSV matches, and sometimes I accompanied him.

“Gradually, a certain bond grows, a click, and you can also associate yourself with that club. PSV emotionally suits me better than, say, Ajax.

“The Amsterdam mentality is different from the Eindhoven warmth. And Limburg is of course also closer to Brabant, in terms of distance, but also in terms of mentality.”

Why Max Verstappen might be a very happy PSV fan at the end of the 2025/26 season

In just a few months, the Eredivisie table will be settled, and PSV will find out whether they have won their third successive title.

Right now, it’s looking quite promising for them, having lost just once in 19 league games so far this season.

They have a 16-point lead over Feyenoord, and it would take something remarkable to lose the title from where they are now.

That means Verstappen should be very happy in the middle of May when their season comes to an end, although it looks like April might be a more realistic target for PSV’s winning aspirations.
