Erling Haaland put in a tired and poor performance for Manchester City in their 2-nil loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Manchester City’s top scorer has carried a heavy workload up front in the absence of Omar Marmoush due to international duty, and the injuries suffered by Savinho and Oscar Bobb haven’t helped matters. Haaland is trying hard, but he does seem to need a rest. Omar Marmoush is set to return from international duty with Egypt. With the African Cup of Nations now complete, Marmoush is set to rejoin the City squad. Help is on the way for Manchester City’s attack, but Marmoush may not be available for City’s next match against Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola is unsure if Omar Marmoush will play against Bodø/Glimt.
The return of Omar Marmoush will give Pep Guardiola another option to use up front. Erling Haaland needs a rest, and Omar Marmoush is the player to give him the rest that he needs. With AFCON now complete, Marmoush is set to link up with the Manchester City squad. The hope is that Marmoush will be available for Manchester City’s Champions League league phase fixture against Bodø/Glimt in Norway on Tuesday night. But Pep Guardiola is unsure if Marmoush will be ready to feature at the Aspmyra Stadion.
Speaking after his team’s derby defeat to Manchester United, Pep Guardiola was asked if Omar Marmoush would be available for Manchester City’s next match against Bodø/Glimt. Guardiola said he didn’t think Marmoush would play in Norway. When asked about Omar Marmoush’s availability, he told the media: “No I don’t think so.”
Manchester City need Omar Marmoush back and ready to contribute.
Although Omar Marmoush hasn’t offered much for Manchester City so far this season, they do need the Egyptian international back and firing. So far this season, Marmoush has scored one goal and added one assist in 15 appearances in all competitions. Marmoush has mainly featured as a substitute this season, coming on in the closing stages of matches. He also suffered a knee injury earlier this season, which was a major setback for him.
Omar Marmoush is too good to be a substitute. When fully fit and in form, he offers a completely different threat than Erling Haaland. Marmoush’s movement and intelligent runs in the final third make him a dangerous player. He also has the ability to produce spectacular long-range shots, so Pep Guardiola’s side needs Marmoush back. Hopefully, he has rediscovered his touch and form while playing for Egypt at the African Cup of Nations.
Manchester City are about to get a boost with the return of Omar Marmoush. He may not feature in City’s upcoming Champions League fixture against Bodø/Glimt, but he is almost back and ready to contribute for Pep Guardiola’s side, and that is welcome news for City given what lies ahead this season.
