Penybont manager Rhys Griffiths has been given a nine-match touchline ban - with three games suspended - for comments made after his side were knocked out of the Welsh Cup by Flint Town United in December.

Griffiths was angered after Penybont's Chris Venables was sent off after seven minutes of the tie, which Flint won on penalties after a goalless draw.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) alleged Griffiths' comments questioned the integrity of the match referee and/or the association, were offensive, insulting, derogatory and/or of a personal nature, implied bias of match officials and/or brought the association and/or the game into disrepute.

The FAW says Griffiths admitted the charge against him and presented mitigation to a disciplinary panel.

"Based upon the evidence provided and Mr Griffiths' own admission, the charge was found proven," an FAW statement said.

Former striker Griffiths will be banned from the dugout, tunnel and dressing room areas in Penybont's next six games.

He will be banned for another three games should there be another breach of FAW social media regulations in the next 12 months.

Griffiths has also been fined £300 and will pay £25 costs.

The 45-year-old also coaches Penybont Under-10s, with his suspension not applying to the academy side's games.

The FAW said last month they had reviewed Venables' red card and that the match referee, Iwan Griffiths, had made the correct decision in sending him off for a stamping motion delivered with speed and intensity.
