Georgia in top-5 of way-too-early college football rankings

The Georgia Bulldogs return a lot of key, experienced pieces from their 2025 team. Quarterback Gunner Stockton will lead the 2026 version of Georgia along with running back Nate Frazier, safety KJ Bolden, cornerback Ellis Robinson, linebacker Raylen Wilson and center Drew Bobo.

In USA TODAY's way-too-early 2026 college football season top-25, Georgia checks in as the No. 3 team behind the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes. Georgia is ranked ahead of other College Football Playoff contenders like No. 4 Indiana, No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 Oregon and No. 10 Miami.

Georgia retained much of its roster this offseason. The transfer portal is now closed. Georgia lost a dozen players to the portal and three players that were either medically retired or dismissed from the program.

The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart brought in Georgia Tech receiver Isiah Canion, Auburn defensive lineman Amaris Williams and Clemson safety Khalil Barnes in their most notable portal additions. The Bulldogs added eight incoming transfers and continue their trend of leaning on developing recruits as opposed to relying on the transfer portal.

On the Bulldogs' 2026 schedule, Georgia is set to face three ranked opponents in No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 11 Alabama and No. 20 Ole Miss.
