New Orleans Saints to have Competition for Cornerback Alontae Taylor?

The Saints' standout cornerback is drawing serious league-wide attention. Will another team outbid New Orleans for his talents in free agency?

New Orleans Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor has proven to be one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Saints fans are aware of it. Unfortunately, the secret is out on Taylor within the league. Other teams are taking notice.

Taylor's recognition likely increases his value in free agency. And at least one team could be looking to outbid the Saints to add him to its roster.

Randy Gurzi of "Dallas Cowboys on SI" thinks that the Cowboys might target the versatile defensive back. He shared why Dallas would want to bring Taylor to their defensive backfield.

"Dallas learned how important the nickel position is when they let Jourdan Lewis leave in free agency. Without him, they had to move DaRon Bland around, which hurt them on the outside.

That's why Alontae Taylor could make sense. Like McCreary, Taylor was a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He spent the past four seasons with the New Orleans Saints, recording 293 tackles, seven sacks, and four interceptions.

He's arguably the top slot corner on the market and could help fill a major hole in the Dallas secondary."

Gurzi here shows plenty of high praise for the Saints' defensive back. Early in his career, Taylor has solidified himself as a player who more than belongs in the league. He has become a coveted addition for teams in dire need of improving on defense.

The Cowboys certainly fit that bill, but it will be interesting to see how Taylor truly feels about New Orleans and whether or not the Saints organization have made it feel too much like home to leave. Ultimately, nobody expects anything other than a business decision, but the Superdome and the Saints fanbase could be difficult to leave.

Regardless of what is said, New Orleans would certainly like Taylor to return one would assume. Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough commanded much of the credit for the team's hot finish, winning four of the last five games. Albeit the defense played a critical role in the team's success in the second half of the season. The Saints will want to keep that intact as much as they want to improve on offense.

New Orleans has a decision to make with Taylor if salary cap space will allow it. The offseason will reveal whether or not a Taylor return is possible. We'll monitor where the Saints are leaning over the next couple of months.
