Chelsea to recall David Datro Fofana from Fatih Karagümrük SK loan — report

Wheeling and dealing

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to recall Loan Army warrior David Datro Fofana from Fatih Karagümrük SK, with a view towards a permanent exit from the club before the end of the month.

The 23-year-old striker joined the Turkish Süper Lig side in the final hours of the summer transfer window and has gone on to score eight times in fifteen appearances, including in their 2-1 defeat against Rams Başakşehir this weekend. The defeat leaves the team rooted to the bottom of the table, seven points adrift of safety and with just two wins from eighteen matches. Fofana had scored nearly half their league goals (six of fifteen).

Fofana’s return will free up a foreign-loan spot, which should be helpful for any remaining transfer machinations in the final two weeks of the January transfer window. Should he leave for good — he’s been linked most notably with Celtic and Derby County — he will leave with just four Chelsea appearances and zero goals to his name, but probably with a small profit margin on the books (you’ll never sing that), following his €12m signing in January 2022. The Côte d’Ivoire international has also spent time on loan at Union Berlin, Burnley, and Göztepe since then.
