Inter Milan legend Maicon has backed the Nerazzurri to win the Scudetto this season amid a ruthless title battle with AC Milan.
Speaking to La Repubblica via FCInterNews, the former defender also praised his ex-teammate Cristian Chivu.
Maicon and Chivu shared the dressing room at San Siro between 2007 and 2012.
Furthermore, they were both part of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning team in 2010.
While Maicon chose to withdraw from public life after hanging up his boots in 2021, Cristian Chivu has returned to the club as a coach.
Furthermore, the 45-year-old has already impressed everyone at Giuseppe Meazza.
In addition to winning four of his first six Champions League games in the dugout, he has steered Inter to the top of the Serie A table.
However, the road to the 21st Scudetto is still long, with Milan looking to challenge Inter’s title credentials until the final weekend.
Indeed, only three points separate the sides at the halfway point of the season.

“I always have Inter in my heart,” Maicon said, confirming he is convinced that “Inter will win the Scudetto because they are superior to the others.
“They are the strongest, with a complete and deep squad, a champion like Lautaro who makes a difference, and a great coach.”
Then, he hailed his former teammate.
“First of all, he is an intelligent and, above all, empathetic guy.
“And in fact, he has been able to get into the players’ heads; it’s clear that he has great chemistry with the players he coaches and that they follow him.
“This is because he has exceptional human qualities. But above all, he understands football, really.
“Even when he was playing, it was clear he could become a coach.
“He could read the game, understand situations and moments in the match – he was already a tactician.”
Finally, he delivered his verdict on Inter’s nearest competitors.
“Milan has a squad of a lower level compared to the Nerazzurri; Napoli has an excellent roster but is inconsistent.
“We’ll see how they perform for the rest of the season; now there are also the cup competitions, which will heavily affect fatigue.
“But I am sure that Inter has something more than its rivals and will ultimately win the league.
“That’s what I think. And, above all, that’s what I hope.”
