Tosin Adarabioyo to miss ‘a few weeks’ with hamstring injury; Axel Disasi joins Chelsea training

Uncle Tosin ruled out

Tosin Adarabioyo was substituted off in the second half of our 2-0 victory over Brentford over the weekend, and unfortunately it sounds like he will be out for a little while at least. Head coach Liam Rosenior confirmed the news in his press conference earlier today.

“Unfortunately for Tosin, there’s something in his hamstring which is going to rule him out for the next few weeks. But I can’t be more precise with that at the moment.”

Chelsea’s injury situation hasn’t been great of late, with some sort of virus rampaging through the squad and several key players also dealing with various knocks and fitness concerns. Tosin hasn’t been a key player, but only Trevoh Chalobah has played more minutes at center back this season. Fortunately, both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile appear to be injury-free at the moment, so we should have the numbers to compensate for Tosin’s absence.

At 28, Tosin is the elder statesman of the squad and he will be halfway through his four-year contract at the end of the season. His future beyond that may not be too certain.

Speaking of uncertain futures, Axel Disasi has been spotted in training on Tuesday. It’s the second time this season that he’s been pulled back out of the Bomb Squad, though it still seems unlikely that he would become an actual part of the first-team squad.

“My decision on Axel, I had a really good meeting with him a couple of days ago. I wanted to catch up with him, see where he was in terms of his career. I said to the players, it’s one thing saying things, it’s another thing living that. I said to the players when I came in, it’s a clean slate for everybody. So it was only right for me to have a conversation with him. Really good conversation. I got to know him really, really well. It was the right thing to be back involved with the group. Because of the situation he’s been in, he’s behind in terms of his fitness, his match fitness, and we’ll keep working with him really, really hard to get him up to speed.”

One might argue that neither Tosin, not Disasi, nor Badiashile, even are of the required quality that we need to achieve all of our ambitions, but at the moment, we could use some fresh pairs of legs given the fixture congestion that shows no signs of easing for a couple more months yet.
