Pep Guardiola says City must put away pessimistic thoughts following our 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.
City beaten on frustrating night in the Champions League
Our hopes of avoiding the play-offs in Europe took a blow after our defeat in Norway which also saw Rodri red-carded.
The defeat comes on the back of a frustrating run in the Premier League where we have taken three points from out last four matches.
With a number of injury setbacks and controversy in recent matches, Guardiola says we need to change the feeling that everything is going wrong.
And he says the players will fight for a top-eight finish in the group phase of the Champions League with one more game to come against Galatasaray at the Etihad.
“We have to come back - the results since 2025 is not good, in terms of the Premier League and now today,” he said after the game.
“But we go forward, Wolves and then Galatasaray. We have the feeling everything is going wrong, the details, but we have to try and change that.
“I don’t have any doubts in this competition, nothing is taken for granted that is for sure.
“[Manchester] United beat us and were better. Today they had momentum. But the team was there and we created - on the transition they are really good.”
The defeat was the first time Bodo/Glimt had beaten English opposition but Guardiola said he did not underestimate their quality.
“Of course we lost but I know how good a team they are, I didn’t underestimate them,” he said.
“[Reaching the] semi-final last season in the Europa league, fresh in mind, and we had some injuries to important players.
“We fought 10 v 11. We have to change the dynamic for the next game against Wolves and against Galatasaray.”
And the boss said the performance was an improvement on the derby defeat although he added that key players were missing.
“We were flat against United but not today,” Guardiola said. “We don’t have Savinho, Jeremy, our wingers.
“In other departments we have players not here and they would give us more consistency.
“But [Bodo/Glimt] were well organised. We struggled a little bit. They were really good. And we congratulate them.”
