John Harbaugh responds to Trump urging him to take Giants job

The new Giants head coach addressed a social media post President Donald Trump wrote.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh addressed President Donald Trump’s public endorsement of him for the position during his introductory news conference Tuesday at Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford.

“It feels really great,” Harbaugh said. “I’ll tell you, I also noticed on that post that he said, ‘John, take the job.’ So I thought that John Mara might have something to do with that. I don’t know, but it’s cool.”

On Jan. 7, one day after the Baltimore Ravens fired Harbaugh, Trump went on Truth Social to advocate for Harbaugh going to the Giants.

“Hire John Harbaugh, fast,” Trump said. “He, and his brother, are total winners!!! President DJT.”

Harbaugh acted like he wasn’t surprised to hear the president weigh in.

“It’s sports and everybody’s excited,” Harbaugh said. “Everybody follows it at every level. People follow football. They follow the Giants and they follow the National Football League. Like we said, it’s the biggest sport and this is the most iconic franchise, so here we are.”

Harbaugh has supported Trump for a long time. He and his brother Jim, who is the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, visited Trump in July. The two were joined by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and stood behind Trump, who was sitting at his desk in the Oval Office. who was sitting at his desk in the Oval Office. The reason for the meeting was not disclosed.

Also in July, the Baltimore Banner reported about comments that John made in 2015, before Trump’s first term in office, when the focus was on immigration and building a wall along the Mexican border. John favored building a wall and trying to reform the immigration process.

“I’m going Trump here,” Harbaugh said, according to the Banner. “Build the wall. If you don’t have a border, you don’t have a country. You’re not a country without a border, right? ... At the same time, you’ve got 12 million to 15 million hardworking people here. Give them a shot. Give them a chance to become a citizen, so they’re paying taxes. All of us know that it’s not that complicated, but this side doesn’t want to solve it. Neither does the other side. Neither one of them want to solve the problem. Solve the problem.”

Harbaugh has an extensive coaching resume, with a 180-113 record in 18 seasons as the Ravens’ head coach. He took them to the playoffs 12 times and won a Super Bowl in 2012.

This season, the Ravens finished 8-9 and lost their regular-season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a game they needed to win to clinch the AFC North and a spot in the postseason. Harbaugh was fired Jan. 6 but quickly became the most sought-after head coaching candidate on the market.
