Jefferson's Trey Oldenburg scores 21 points in victory over Dundee and moves up three spots on Monroe County Region all-time scoring list.

DUNDEE – Trey Oldenburg is climbing up the list.

The Jefferson senior scored 21 points during a 69-35 boys basketball victory over Dundee on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

He moved up three spots on the Monroe County Region’s all-time scoring list.

Oldenburg now owns 1,122 career points.

He passed C.J. Turnage of Milan (1,103), Dave Klem of Bedford (1,108) and Chad Cilley of Ida (1,118).

Next on the list are Erie Mason’s Mark Vollmar and Jake DuPree of Whiteford. Each of them finished with 1,127 points.

Oldenburg had good support as Luke Beaudrie scored a season-high 16 points and Hunter Barton tossed in 10.

“We shared the ball well and really locked down defensively,” Jefferson coach Corey Wiley said of his 9-4 team. “Balanced scoring and a very strong defensive effort.”

Mason Ray scored 8 points for 4-9 Dundee.

“Jefferson has a good basketball team and that showed tonight,” Dundee coach Larry Middleton said.

BOYS

Gibraltar Carlson 50, Lincoln Park 45

LINCOLN PARK – Gibraltar Carlson went on the road to hand Lincoln Park its first Downriver League loss of the season.

The Railsplitters now share first place in the league with Woodhaven at 8-1. Carlson is 6-6 overall and 5-3 in the league.

The third quarter was the key for the Marauders. They erased a 21-20 halftime deficit by controlling the period 17-8.

Trent Ison scored 6 of his game-high 27 points in the period. Justin Hird added 5 of his 9. Ison finished with 10 rebounds and Hird 8.

New Boston Huron 48, Southgate 27

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron stretched its winning streak to five games and improved to 9-4.

“Another great team effort tonight,” Huron coach Ted Tackett said. “Eight players found the scorebook, and our defense tightened up as the game progressed.”

Zennon Grant scored 16 points and Jackson Surma 11.

Summerfield 75, Britton Deerfield 39

PETERSBURG – Summerfield emphatically snapped its three-game losing streak.

“I thought the boys were pretty complete tonight after an epic letdown Friday night on the road,” Summerfield coach Phil Schiffler said. “Now we have to take that momentum and carry it forward.”

Brody St. John was the best player on the floor with 19 points and 9 rebounds.

Rylee Schiffler (14), Easton Lapoint (13) and Clark Ciacelli (10) also scored in double figures for the 8-6 Bulldogs.

Milan 52, Garden City 33

MILAN – Landon Talladay went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the third quarter and finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds.

The Big Reds snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-10.

“Total team win we played our best defensive game as a team,” Milan coach Bill Eaddy said. “We shot well from the free-throw line also.”

GIRLS

Saline 56, Flat Rock 31

SALINE – Flat Rock started slowly on the road, scoring just 4 points in the opening quarter and 12 in the first half.

“Saline is a strong team that shot the ball extremely well,” Flat Rock coach Brian Kryk said. “We had difficulty matching their size and athleticism throughout the game.”

Madleen Hussein paced the 6-4 Rams with 12 points.

Clinton 54, Erie Mason 44

ERIE – A balanced attack was not enough for Erie Mason from its fourth consecutive loss.

Zoie Stubleski led the 4-9 Eagles with 13 points, Paige Konrad scored 11 and Emalyn Hammond and Haley Burden 9 apiece.

Blissfield 60, Summerfield 42

BLISSFIELD – Summerfield, playing a state-ranked team for the third time in its last four games, put up a great fight.

“The score doesn’t reflect how we played tonight,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moody said. “I was happy with our effort tonight.”

Jaeli Jones paced the 9-3 Bulldogs with 24 points. Bridget Salenbien and Grace Raymond also played well.

MONDAY’S GAMES

GIRLS

Dundee 38, Napoleon 30

NAPOLEON – Dundee (8-3) controlled the opening period 16-8 then maintained that same margin to the finish.

“This was a great experience for our young team,” Dundee coach Jay Briggs said. “Road trips are never easy, but we found a way to win.”

McKenzie Heath, who scored a career-high 20 points in her previous game, continued her hot scoring with a game-high 14 points.

Orchard Lake St. Mary 78, Airport 41

ORCHARD LAKE – Airport was blitzed 29-2 in the opening quarter.

“They shot the ball extremely well and they were better than us tonight,” Airport assistant coach Luke Baker said. “They are a good basketball team and all the credit goes to their players and coaching staff.”

Sophia Mator led the 8-2 Jets with 11 points.
