LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Back-to-back rivalry games at Don Johnson Fieldhouse are a solid test for the Lansing Sexton boys basketball team at this point in the season.

The J-Dubbs took down Lansing Everett 69-64 on Tuesday, bouncing back from a 69-67 loss to Waverly on Saturday.

The victory over the Vikings improved Lansing Sexton to 10-2 this season.

“It’s a good win,” Lansing Sexton coach Deleon Dearing said. “We could be 20-0 and they could be 1-20, it doesn’t matter when it comes to the rivalry game.”

Lansing Sexton senior Keyshawn Summerville came into the game needing just 30 points to become the school’s all-time leading scorer. Summerville finished Tuesday’s game with 10 points and will look to get the record on Thursday at home against Lansing Catholic.

Zion Mathis had a solid day at the office for the J-Dubbs as well. The sophomore had 11 points and put together one of his best all-around performances.

“I want to give a special shoutout to my sophomore Zion Mathis,” Dearing said. “If Zion doesn’t get in the game with the energy and aggressiveness he played with, I don’t know how the game would have went. Everybody has to step up and help out when we need them, and Zion Mathis stepped up tonight for us.”

After playing Lansing Catholic on Thursday, Lansing Sexton will play at Portland on Friday night for another big CAAC White matchup.
