According to MARCA, Real Madrid have finalised the contract renewal of teenage defender Leo Lemaitre until June 2028.
Dubbed the ‘other Huijsen’ within the club, Lemaitre is one of the most highly-rated young prospects coming through La Fabrica.
At 16 years of age and standing 1.92 metres tall, Lemaitre is a first-year youth player and a member of the Juvenil B squad coached by Marcos Jimenez.
Lemaitre is one of the leading figures of the outstanding 2009 generation, which has generated significant excitement within the academy. Other players from that group include Enzo Alves, Mateo Pozo and Bryan Bugarin.
Lemaitre joined the Real Madrid academy in 2021 at Infantil B level. He is currently part of the Juvenil B squad, with whom he competed in the Youth Club World Cup last summer, where he played a prominent role.
At the same time, he is regularly involved with the Juvenil A setup. He has already made his debut as a starter in the UEFA Youth League, featuring in the final group-stage match against Manchester City, and has also taken part in training sessions with Castilla.
The defender had attracted the attention of several clubs due to his outstanding potential. This interest also extended to the international level, as his dual nationality allows him to represent both Spain and France.
In fact, the French Football Federation had moved to announce last September that they had secured the player, who had previously been part of the Spanish youth setup.
Indeed, despite having initially represented Spain, playing six matches for the under-15 team and two for the under-16s, Lemaitre has now chosen to commit to France.
