Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has shared his thoughts on whether his team has a realistic chance of clinching the 2025/26 Betway Premiership title.
The Soweto giants edged Golden Arrows in their first league outing of 2026, and moved within two points of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have amassed 29 points.
While results have been somewhat inconsistent, a section of the Amakhosi faithful is hopeful of a title charge, with the club's last championship dating back to the 2014/15 campaign.
However, when quizzed on whether Chiefs can challenge for the title, Kaze gave a cagey response, stressing that a title race is a marathon, which he prefers to take step-by-step.
“I think the last time the team won the league is 2015, last two or three seasons we were not even in the top eight. I think the first thing to be realistic is to stay in the pack of the first teams, it's still early January and take it game by game,” he said.
"We have to stay in that pack because everywhere the league is decided in April, beginning of May but we know that we are going to compete game by game and now we are going to focus on our next game in the CAF Confederation Cup.
"There is a lot of things that can happen from now on to May, but we know what we want and with the squad that we have, we are going to compete in every game.
Chiefs will travel to Zambia where they are set to square off against ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
