The junior sustained injuries as the result of a car accident last month in Canada.
Syracuse junior Trey Deere is likely to miss the 2026 season as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred prior to his return to campus for the spring semester, according to a report from Inside Lacrosse on Wednesday.
The sources that spoke with IL said that they were not aware of the exact nature or extent of Deere’s injuries, but that it’s likely his recovery results in using a redshirt this season. The accident reportedly occurred last month on the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory in Quebec, Canada, where Deere is from.
Trey is coming off a sophomore season in which he appeared in all 19 games, starting three of them. He finished seventh on last year’s team in both goals (19) and points (21), while shooting over 40 percent for the year (40.4).
While he wasn’t getting as many opportunities in the regular offense, his most critical role was as a member of the Orange’s EMO unit, ranked seventh nationally with a 48.2 success rate. Trey himself thrived on the man-up, finishing the season with seven goals to lead the team and rank tied for eighth nationally.
His absence will be a big blow to an offense that has a lot coming back but also needs to replace Owen Hiltz and Sammy English. Trey was one of a group of players looking for an increased role in this year’s offense in the wake of those departures. The supporting cast for the “core four” seniors Joey Spallina, Finn Thomson, Michael Leo and Luke Rhoa has now lost one of its options.
This is obviously terrible news for Trey personally, and we wish him all the best in his recovery from this accident.
