MM 1.23: Oluchi Okananwa reaches career milestones of 1,000 points and 500 rebounds

This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Oluchi Okananwa has proven to be a valuable portal catch as she continues to develop in a Maryland uniform.  On Thursday, Okananwa was celebrated in a pregame ceremony after she achieved her 500th board against USC on Jan. 15 and her 1000th point against Ohio State four days prior.

Okananwa achieved the majority of her statistics at Duke, where she was named most outstanding player of the 2025 ACC Tournament en route to an Elite 8 berth. But the guard has continued her offensive output into this season.

She averages 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the predominant weapon on a deep Maryland roster. On the defensive side, Okananwa’s 43 steals put her fourth in the Big Ten.

Okananwa has been an essential part of Brenda Frese’s effective offensive gameplanning. The Terps have scored 1,773 points so far this season, over 100 more than the next-best team in the conference.
